Loading Up Our Plates!

Late last week, the situation was getting pretty dire in third grade. Students were tired. Teacher was crabby. What were we going to do?

Well, being the math geek I am, I figured some math would solve the problem. Yes?

Well, maybe not, but we did it anyway!

Each person was "given" $10.00 to spend on their own personal Thanksgiving meal. They figured out what they wanted to "eat" and used adding and subtracting to figure out how much they had left.

There was a lot of interesting conversation going on at this point. Who knew so many kids don't like turkey? Green beans I wasn't surprised by, but turkey? Oh well...they found other yummy things to put on their plates.

Then they could create their plate thanks to Google and some awesome images!

As soon as they knew what they wanted to "eat," and what it would cost, they could make their plate.

The one on the bottom right? Has a fork, knife, spoon and butter. Hilarious!

We had a lot of fun choosing our Thanksgiving menu items, adding up our total spent and making sure we didn't go over our $10.00 budgets.

Making our Thanksgiving meal certainly helped up the mood around the classroom!

A little "Snuggle Up and Read" didn't hurt either...

Five for Friday - almost Saturday!

It has been a crazy long time since I linked up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for a Five for Friday post! I'm so excited that I have 5 things that I can share...and that I actually took pictures of! Hah!

So here we go!

We had a lovely Thanksgiving at my parents' house! I was in charge of the pie...it turned out pretty yummy! And then we got to have leftovers tonight for dinner....perfect. :-)

Number 2 clip art

I know this one is Thanksgiving related too, but I'm always so grateful for my amazing husband. Just for starters, his arms are long enough to take awesome selfies where I don't look like I have 13 chins! There's a lot more reasons to love him too...that's just one!

I know, I know! It's lame to work over break. But...I am getting ready to start new rounds of math workshop on Monday, so I went in and rearranged my bulletin board and got the bins ready with their new activities. I can't wait to get them started!

I found these at Kohls (NOT during Black Friday - that's not my thing) and I couldn't resist! They are living in the classroom and I'm sure they will have some awesome new third grade friends come Monday morning. :-) They were only $5 each!

Last, but not least, I spent some time working on a new product this week! I'm excited to share my 2D Shape Sort with Triangles. It includes shape cards, graphic organizers and sorting mats to use in centers. If you would like to check it out, please click the picture to visit my TPT store.

And, to go along with my new product, I will be participating in the Teachers Pay Teachers Cyber Monday sale! Everything in my store will be 20% and you can also enter the promo code CYBER for an extra 10%. I know I'm already filling up my cart!

Thanks to Creative Clips for the adorable button!
Have a great weekend everyone! Happy Friday!

The Truth About My Perfect Vacation

I am so excited to be linking up with Denise at Sunny Days in Second Grade for her fun linky, My Truth Monday! I have been reading all the wonderful Monday posts the past few weeks and I'm really glad to jump on board today. :-)

http://sunnydaysinsecondgrade.blogspot.com/2013/11/my-truth-monday-dream-vacation.html

This is a perfect topic for today, isn't it? I am on the MOST perfect kind of vacation right now...a vacation from work! Hah! And it is nice to be hanging out at home, doing whatever I please. However, if I had my choice, I could think up a pretty amazing place to be where the sun is shining and the temperature is higher than 35 degrees...

There you have it...the perfect vacation! I do always tell my wonderful hubby that it doesn't matter where we go, we always have a good time when we are together. Gooshy, I know, but I think it's true!

A Just Because Giveaway!

Hi there, everyone! Boy, it feels like forever since I've paid any attention to this little blog. Things have been a little crazy in my corner of the world!

Besides the every day stress we have all been dealing with (I know you feel me), my father-in-law had emergency open heart surgery about two weeks ago. He went to the doctor with mild chest pains and feeling short of breath. They did some tests and realized that his heart was only doing about one-third of the work that it should. Luckily, my husband's uncle is a cardiologist and they were able to quickly figure out exactly what he needed - a double bypass and aortic valve reconstruction. They got him into surgery and he did great! My mother-in-law stayed with us while he was recuperating. Now he's home and doing wonderfully! He's already up and walking around the block multiple times a day. I'm so glad that a scary situation turned out so well. He'll be good as new in no time at all!

In the meantime, I've been sick as a dog! (We've been working on similes....) Every time I think I've shaken this nasty bug, it hits me again. Hopefully, I'm over the hump and no more yucky sick days!

Anyway, I've been waiting for the "perfect time" to have a giveaway. But anytime something life threatening happens, I'm reminded that the perfect time to do something is always NOW. So, in order to say thank you for sticking by the blog and really, just because, here is a fun little giveaway!

A few months ago, I contacted the awesome folks at planbook.com, to tell them how much I love their online planbook. I also asked them if they would donate a year-long subscription to one of my great followers. They got right back to me and they didn't donate one - they donated THREE!

If you want to read my post about how great they are, you can check it out {here}! And to top it off, they just released their new iPad app. They are amazing folks over there!

So...I am having three separate giveaways! One for each subscription and each one has a little something from me as well. :-)

First Up: Who couldn't use $25 to spend on fantastic TPT resources?

Next: The holidays are coming up, and an Amazon card can be used in so many ways!

Finally: A little Starbucks to get you through until Thanksgiving break. Or Winter Break. Whenever YOU need that lift!

Thanks again for sticking with me!

Late to the Party

Even though it's November 10, I'm still hopping on the Currently train! This blog has been neglected, and I have more to post about, but I'm just going to post quickly tonight. :-)

Listening: My favorite character is Louise...she cracks me up!

Loving: We took the dogs for a beautiful walk today - with NO jackets!

Thinking: I really want to do some more things for TPT...we are getting more and more into math workshop, so once I test some things with my kiddos, hopefully I can get them up there!

Wanting: Who knew third graders brought the drama? So. Much. Drama.

Needing: The independent work the kids are doing is getting old...we need fresh activities for practice! If you have something awesome, let me know!

Yummy Pin: This is as yummy as it is easy! We love it over noodles. It's called Chicken with Creamy Mushrooms...delicious! You can click the pic for my pin or {here} for the actual link.

Ok. There it is...late, but still fun! Stay tuned later this week for a fun giveaway!
